User Rights and Responsibilities

The Art Nest is a free program open to anyone for the purpose of socializing and engaging in creativity

We would like to make you aware of the following rights and responsibilities in order to provide you and all of our visitors with an enjoyable and mutually beneficial experience.

The Art Nest is a free open access art studio. This means that absolutely everyone is welcome as an artist in our space, that they may use our tools and materials for creative purposes, that they may benefit from the support of the facilitator, volunteers and other users, and that they may do so at no charge. While visiting our studio you have the right to:
  • Make Art! Here, you and everyone is around you is welcome as an artist and the materials and tools are free for your use.
  • Feel safe and supported, we are striving to create and environment where everyone feels safe.
  • If something happens that makes you feel unsafe or uncomfortable in any way we encourage you to bring it to the attention of the facilitator or volunteers.
  • Share your thoughts and ideas and skills!
  • Come and go as you please (or as your parents permit) during open studio time.
  • Enjoy the many benefits of creating art in community, including reduced stress and anxiety, improved confidence, increased sense of belonging.

You also have the responsibility to:

  • Use the tools, materials and space in a safe and respectful manner. If you don’t know how to use a tool or are unsure about a material please ask!
  • Use only the tools and materials that are designated for open studio use, if you are unsure, ask first.
  • Be mindful. Be aware of how your words and actions contribute to a positive environment.
  • Be respectful and polite, get to know the fellow artists in the studio.
  • Clean up after yourself!
  • Problem solve. We are working on creating an inclusive sense of community, if problems come up, we ask that you engage in constructive conversation and action to help solve the problem.

Parents please be aware that while you are welcome to leave children aged 6 and up without your supervision, you must also be available to pick them up if they are ready to go, or in case of emergency. Unlike a registered program we do not accept the responsibility of engaging and supervising your children for the duration of our opening hours. It is normal for young children to not be able to stay focused for long periods of time, and we are not always equipped to keep them occupied if they are no longer engaged in artmaking.
